Seward, Alaska Sept 25, 2016The City of Seward and the Seward Alternative Energy Group (SAEG) are hosting their second annual Seward Energy Forum & Fair on Oct 14th and 15th, 2016. The fair will be held at AVTEC – Alaska’s Institute of Technology in the Student Service Center from 10 am to 5 pm on Friday and 11 am to 4 pm on Saturday.

Speakers from statewide agencies, such as Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AFHC), Renewable Alaska Energy Project (REAP), Alaska Energy Authority (AEA), Homer Electric Association, UAA’s Sustainable Energy Program, will be presenting over the course of two days. The first day lectures include updates on the Grant Lake Hydroelectric project as well as a panel discussion featuring Piper Wilder of Renewable Energy Alaska Project, Cady Lister of Alaska Energy Authority, and Alaska State Legislature Senator Peter Micciche.  Micciche is a Co-Chair for the Senate Special Committee On Energy and a Senate Resources Committee Member. Friday will conclude with a tour of the Alaska Sealife Center’s new CO2 Heat Pump, hosted by Darryl Schaefermeyer, Special Projects Director, and Andy Baker of Your Clean Energy. An evening reception is to follow at Zudy’s.

On Saturday, those interested in Home Energy Efficiency will have the opportunity to learn tips that they can make to reduce their energy bills and get projects started through workshops presented by Scott Waterman of Alaska Housing Finance Corporation and Mark Masteller of UAA/Mat-Su Sustainable Energy Program.  Seward locals may be interested to note that Andy Baker, Project Manager of YourCleanEnergy LLC., will be on hand again this year to provide an update on renewable energy opportunities and savings through the District Heating Project.

Exhibitors will be providing the latest information on renewable energy systems as well as energy efficiency educational materials.  Participants are encouraged to vote on and enjoy submissions made by local students for the Seward Energy Forum & Fair Art Contest.  Winners from each age group will receive prizes donated by local tour companies who support renewable energy and energy efficiency efforts.

The Seward Alternative Energy Group was founded by the Seward Chamber of Commerce under the Seward Economic Growth Plan. SAEG is a group of local citizens who wish to encourage renewable energy and clean technology development in Alaska.  The function of SAEG is to educate, create awareness, support for their cause in promoting a community-wide energy plan. Seward’s energy plan’s overall objective is to decrease the community’s carbon imprint on the environment, reduce the cost of living and lead to economic growth for their region.
